Is the Range Rover Going Electric? Everything Land Rover Owners Need to Know

If you own a Range Rover (or you’re thinking about buying one) you’ve probably been
wondering about the electric revolution coming to the Land Rover lineup. The short answer
is yes, the Range Rover is going green, and it’s happening sooner than many people think.

Here’s everything we know so far, and what it means for current and future Land Rover
owners.

When Is the Range Rover Electric Coming?

Jaguar Land Rover has confirmed that the all-electric Range Rover is launching in 2026. Full
details are expected to be announced at the JLR Investor Day in June 2026, with deliveries
to follow in the second half of the year. This makes the Range Rover Electric one of the most
hotly anticipated luxury EVs of the decade, and one of the most significant moments in
Land Rover’s 77-year history.

What Do We Know About the Range Rover Electric?

While JLR has kept many details under wraps, here is what has been confirmed or credibly
reported so far:

• Platform: Built on Land Rover’s advanced MLA (Modular Longitudinal Architecture)
  platform, the same platform underpinning the current full-size Range Rover and
  Range Rover Sport
• Performance: Expected output of around 542hp with a range of 270+ miles on a
  single charge
• Off-road capability: JLR has been emphatic, this will be a proper Range Rover first,
  an electric car second. All the off-road capability of the current model is expected to
  be retained
• Design: Minimal exterior changes from the current model, expect subtle differences
  like a charging flap, revised grille and unique alloy wheels to distinguish the EV
  version
• Price: Expected to start around £130,000+ given the current Range Rover pricing
  structure

What About the Range Rover Sport Electric?

The Range Rover Sport Electric is also in development and expected to follow shortly after
the full-size model. With a similar powertrain setup delivering around 542hp and up to 53
miles of electric-only range on the PHEV variant, it’s shaping up to be the most performance-
focused Range Rover Sport yet. JLR has stated that the Sport Electric will build on the
current model’s exceptional aerodynamic efficiency… which already achieves a drag
coefficient of 0.29.

Should You Buy One, Or Stick With the Current Model?

This is the question we’re getting asked most often at the moment. The honest answer is
that it depends on your situation. Here are a few things worth considering:

• If you do high mileage: The current PHEV models (P440e and P550e) may offer the
  best of both worlds (electric running around town, petrol for longer journeys).
• If you use your Range Rover off-road regularly: Wait to see how the new model
  performs in real-world off-road conditions before committing
• If you’re thinking of buying a used Range Rover now: The launch of the electric
  model may affect residual values on current petrol and diesel models, so it’s worth
  factoring that in
• If charging infrastructure is a concern: Home charging is essential to get the best
  from a full EV… make sure this is in place before buying

What Does This Mean for Servicing?

This is something we’re actively preparing for at Broadfields. Electric and hybrid Land
Rovers still require specialist servicing… brakes, suspension, tyres, software updates and
