The Royal Family’s Land Rovers and Range Rovers
Since launching in 1948, the Land Rover has been a classic British car. But did you know Land Rovers are a favourite among the Royals? To name a few, the members of the Royal Family who regularly drive Land Rovers and Range Rovers include the Queen, the Prince of Wales, Prince Harry and Prince Andrew.
With their excellent 4×4 off-road performance and comfortable interior, what’s not to like? Find out more about the Royal Family’s love for Land Rovers and Range Rovers.
Land Rover’s Royal Warrant
A Royal Warrant is granted as a mark of recognition to those who have supplied goods or services to HM The Queen, HRH The Duke of Edinburgh or HRH The Prince of Wales, or their households.
Land Rover holds all three Royal Warrants and alongside Jaguar, is the only automaker to have been granted all three of the Royal Warrants.
The Queen is known to love motors and her extravagant car collection, estimated to be worth £10 million, reflects this.
Her Majesty isn’t actually required to have a driver’s license due to her royal status. However, she learnt to drive during World War II when she operated a first aid truck for the Women’s Auxiliary Territorial Service.
She is thought to have over 30 Land Rovers and has been seen in various Land Rover’s since 1955 when she was photographed in Windsor with the Duke of Edinburgh.
Land Rover Defender
Back in 1953, the Queens’ first State Review vehicle was a Land Rover Series 1.
In 2002, Land Rover built the Queen a custom-made Land Rover Defender and sold it to Sandringham. It was upholstered with green leather, as well as the addition of heated seats and electric windows.
The Land Rover Defender is also said to be a firm favourite amongst other members of the Royal Family.
Range Rover LWB Landaulet
The Queen also has a custom-built Range Rover LWB Landaulet; the fourth State Review vehicle which Land Rover has provided. This vehicle is equipped with backwards-opening doors and an open-air top.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge
The Land Rover Discovery is said to be one of Prince William and Kate Middleton’s favourites; a seven-seater so there’s room for all the family.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge also returned home from the hospital with two of their children in a Range Rover SE Vogue, and most recently with Prince Louis in a Land Rover Discovery.
Zara Tindall, the Queen’s eldest granddaughter became an official Land Rover ambassador back in 2006. This partnership further strengthens Land Rover’s already strong royal connections.
