Tips for Checking Out a Land Rover Before Buying
The process of buying a Land Rover, whether used or new, can take some time and research. You’ll want to get a good deal for your vehicle, whilst ensuring that it meets your requirements and is the best fit for you. Follow our tips on some important things to look out for before making your purchase.
Choose the right model for you
Before your search for a Land Rover begins, make a list of everything you need from the car.
Some considerations you may want to make are:
- Do I want to drive an automatic or manual?
- Is the size of the car important?
- Will I be using my car for short or long journeys?
- What’s better, petrol or diesel?
- Is environmental impact important to me?
- What other features do I want – AC, cruise control etc?
Make sure you do your research into costs if you’re considering buying a used model. To avoid being overcharged, research the market value of the vehicle you’re looking at and compare the prices of similar cars. Remember to take into account things such as miles and any servicing or repairs that may need doing over the next few months.
If you’re planning to buy a new Land Rover, compare the costs of different models and don’t forget to get an insurance quote.
Check the car history, service history and registration document
If buying a used car, it’s important that you check both the car and service history to ensure that the car has not been reported stolen or that it’s under a logbook loan agreement.
Ask the seller to show you the full service history and the previous MOT certificates. This way you’ll be able to work out when the car is next due a MOT.
Also look at the vehicle’s V5C registration document to see the details of the current owner and previous owners. Make sure that the vehicle identification number (VIN) on the car matches the VIN on the V5C registration document.
Carry out a visual inspection
This tip is particularly relevant if you’re buying a used Land Rover. Organise a car viewing during the day and preferably when it’s not raining so that you can take the time to carefully check over the vehicle with good visibility.
Check the tyres, under the bonnet and beneath the car.
Take it for a test drive
Whether you’re buying a used or brand new Land Rover, it’s always a good idea to take it for a test drive to make sure that it’s the right vehicle for you. If you previously drove a different car, much lower to the ground, the driving experience will feel different so it’s important to get a feel for the car. We recommend that you test drive a car for at least 20 minutes so you can get a good idea of how it performs.
Is it environmentally friendly?
If protecting our planet is important to you when considering the purchase of your next car, you may wish to opt for a newer model Land Rover. Manufacturer Jaguar Land Rover is working to reduce the amount of carbon produced during the production process and when the cars are driven. Their newer models have a reduced carbon footprint and a lower environmental impact.
